Chen Tian

Field(s) of study: Viola, Violin Born : Singapore Degrees: Bachelor of Music (Honours), NAFA-Royal College of Music (Sg/UK), Diploma of Music, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Biography: Born into a musical family, Ms Chen began learning the violin at the age of four and attained Grade 8 while still in primary school. With both parents being musicians, she was immersed in music from a young age. She studied violin under the tutelage of Mr Zhang Zhen Shan, Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) and viola with Ms Marietta Ku, Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO). During her time in NAFA, she received the Most Improved GPA award. She later successfully auditioned for both the RCM Philharmonic Orchestra and the RCM Repertoire Orchestra while studying at the Royal College of Music (RCM). She performed with NAFA orchestra, Orchestra of the Music Makers, Jesselton Philharmonic Orchestra, formerly second chair violist in Kids' Philharmonic and Principal violist in Singapore Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. She also performed with string quartet for numerous occasions, playing classical, pop and musical theatre. She was also a preschool music teacher. Ms Chen is passionate and dedicated to teaching and believes that music is a universal language that connects people across cultures and brings communities together. In her free time, she enjoys learning new things and meeting people. Faculty : Faculty since January 2026
